Inurba Mobility, spanish specialist in the operation of self-service bicycle services on behalf of local authorities,  will ensure the investment, installation, and operational management of the service.

The supply of electrically assisted bicycles, charging stations and software interfaces will rely on Fifteen.

To develop the practice of cycling in Marseille with as many people as possible, the new fleet of self-service bicycles will therefore be 100% electric and composed of:

  • 2 000 bikes (against 1 000 currently)
  • spread over an extended network of 200 stations (against 130 currently).

With 70 stations (+54%) and 1 000 additional bikes (+100%), the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis intends to double the number of users to reach 26,000 subscribers by the end of 2023 and reach 7% of the modal share of cycling by 2030.

The start of the gradual deployment of this new service is scheduled for the end of December 2022.

Technical choices for an inclusive service

A 100% electric fleet

To reach as many people as possible, the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis has chosen a 100% electric fleet.

The bike proposed to equip the new "Levélo" service is the FUSION model of Fifteen:

  • A handy and lightweight bike
  • Range up to 65 kms
  • Equipped with an automatic torque sensor that dispenses with shifting gears.

A flexible user experience for all

The service will be accessible in several ways:

  • From the levélo application (geolocation, GPS guidance, assistance level)
  • Via the ticket service to dedicated vending machines: totems equipped with CB terminals)
  • Via rfid cards of the public transport network

Ultra-lightweigh charging and docking

The stations allow a dense and evolving network of the territory.

The bikes are connected to each other and to a single charging station via the electromagnets that allow the transfer of energy.

This innovation patented by Fifteen greatly limits the size and installation work.

Innovative bikes for optimal service availability

To meet the operational requirements of such an ambitious network, different technologies are made available to the operator:

  •  To optimize its reallocation routes, it will benefit from a tool to predict demand in the different stations of the network.
  • To facilitate the maintenance of the fleet, the bike is equipped with an on-board software and hardware self-diagnostic system.
  • To protect the bike from incivility, it is equipped with a security device: alarm, engine lock and geolocation..

Valuable data to boost cycling

Thanks to the sensors on board the bike, the Metropolis will have access to tools for mapping trips and monitoring attendance on the various axes.

Indicators such as the average travel speed, the average stopping time per kilometer, or the vibrations absorbed by the bike throughout its journey make it possible to measure the cyclability in each area of the territory.

The combined analysis of this data will be a powerful tool for improvement and decision support.

For the Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolis, Martine Vassal, President, declares:

The modernization of the Levélo service, for which we have chosen 100% electric, (...) will not only cover a wider perimeter but also better adapt to the hilly topography of Marseille.

For Fifteen, Benoit Yameundjeu, CEO of Fifteen, said:

This choice reflects a very strong ambition to develop active mobility and corresponds to the vision defended by Fifteen. We are delighted that Marseille has joined the list of major French and international cities that already benefit from our services.
